Photography. PHOTography. It’s not about megapixel production or creating bokeh porn with fast lenses. You’re not a photographer just because you bought a full-frame camera and blur the background to unrecognizability at f/1.2. Most people, unfortunately, are impressed by that, especially if you try to hide the fact that you don’t light properly with one or two Instagram-style effects. Or maybe you try to save yourself with the ‘I only work with natural light’ card. You can do that—photography isn’t an exact science, it’s an art. You can also justify it as artistic freedom, of course. Short/broad lighting, loop, butterfly, Rembrandt lighting… do terms like rim light or background light mean anything to you?
